New cheap and ethical footwear, that isn't ugly, doesn't really seem to be a thing. However, Dr Martens does apparently seem to take ethical manufacturing processes seriously,  and the Vintage Shoe Company aren't crazy expensive either considering they're made in the USA. There is also Beyond Skin, but again, it isn't cheap. There's also a good chance those shoes you saw on Asos will be being sold second-hand-but-new on Ebay because they didn't fit someone else (for example), so that's how I'll be finding new shoes in the meantime.

  1. If you were looking to add to the list I'd def recommend Mata Traders, Passion Lilie, and many more! And Mata Traders has a great sale section, I got a fair trade dress for only $18. I agree w/ the fair trade shoes, there are lots of great companies but very pricey so I stick to secondhand as well. And, if you're interested in Mexican embroidery for tops and woven belts and bracelets, i have a shameless self-plug that my little shop is fair trade as well, only I haven't gotten the resources to get certified. But if you're interested, I did a guest post about it on October Rebel's blog a few days ago : ): http://octoberrebel.blogspot.com/2013/09/guest-post-from-dus-of-cuddly-cacti.html
Oh, and it's exciting to see big shops like Modcloth making fairly made lines, & I'd rec. my blogger friends' Etsy shops, The Braided Bandit and Bear & Twine for vintage as well. So many options and it's wonderful you're getting the word out!
